Harris Corporation, Aastra, and Triveni Digital Create Seamless Content Delivery Platform for Rich Media Networks
LAS VEGAS, April 19, 2004

As rich media networks continue to proliferate, Harris Corporation’s (NYSE: HRS) Broadcast Communications Division, Aastra, and Triveni Digital have developed an integrated content delivery platform based on each company’s product portfolio. Capitalizing on advancements in digital technologies, the platform links Harris’ automation, workflow, and media asset management technologies, Aastra’s award-winning content distribution and networking platform, and Triveni Digital’s data broadcast and metadata solutions. The complete platform provides end-to-end solutions for robust network management, including creation, management, distribution, and verification of rich media applications.

Additionally at NAB2004, each company will introduce further extensions to their respective portfolios to enhance capabilities and expand into new distribution technologies. The platform is on display at Harris Broadcast Division’s booth #C1906 at NAB2004 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 19-22.

Enhanced Capabilities for Content Delivery

As the industry has evolved to digital technology, a critical missing link was the ability to manage media assets throughout a distribution channel – not just a single enterprise. Through the integrated content delivery platform, Harris, Aastra, and Triveni Digital have provided solutions that handle metadata, assets, management, and verification of delivery seamlessly. Additionally, based on the modular nature of the key products, the implementation efforts can scale to larger solutions as broadcast needs and traffic requirements increase.

"What innovative content providers and distributors need are end-to-end solutions that increase their operational efficiencies through technology use," said Hal Wilson, vice president of studio products and service, Harris Broadcast Communications Division. "By integrating the Harris, Triveni Digital, and Aastra portfolios, we’ve done just that."

The new platform manages the total workflow of the media, beginning with Harris’ Broadcast Presentation Manager (BPM). New at NAB2004, BPM is Harris’ next-generation automation and workflow management suite. BPM provides distributed schedule management tools, ensuring that schedules from the automation system, traffic system, or other third-party software are integrated into the Workflow Process Manager. Connected to Harris’ Invenio™ Asset Management System, BPM ensures that content is delivered in the right format, to the right place, at the right time.

From there, Triveni Digital’s robust SkyScraper™ system, winner of the NAB2003 AIM Award for Content Distribution, allows users to enhance programming with data, as well as prioritize service distribution across many networks. Sold by Harris under the name of DATAplus™, the system allows service providers to quickly "package" content from media assets, providing applications that repurpose existing media for new revenue opportunities. GuideBuilder™/PSIPplus™ may also be used for the transport of SCTE-35 cue tones, PSIP information or other program-related data, and it can control the delivery of media and services to multiple networks. During NAB2004, Triveni Digital will demonstrate a new developer’s kit and show the system working with a variety of applications.

Aastra’s award-winning NetVX™ platform creates the infrastructure for the distribution of media. A robust, multi-function, multi-format encoder/decoder device, NetVX provides a cost-effective network backbone for rich media providers. At NAB2004, new modules will be launched expanding current standard capabilities, including the ability to manage Video-over-IP as well as handle GigE requirements. In the near future, splicing technologies will be added as well.

At the edge or receive site, Triveni Digital’s Content Receiver, paired with Harris’ Digital Ingest, provides automated ingest of media into an enterprise’s storage and/or asset management repository.

"Triveni Digital is committed to furthering the capabilities of the digital television industry by providing the tools and solutions required to help broadcasters monitor, manage and distribute content," said Mark Simpson, president and CEO, Triveni Digital. "The aggregation of our data and metadata management systems within this platform provides working solutions that can be easily integrated for broadcasters today with immediate returns tomorrow."
