Triveni Digital CTO Will Join IPTV Quality Assurance Panel at IBC2008

Triveni Digital, a subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc., today announced that its chief technology officer, Dr. Richard Chernock, will participate in an IEEE BTS tutorial session on IPTV quality assurance, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 11, at the IBC2008 conference and exhibition. During the tutorial session, titled “Quality Issues With TV and Multimedia Over IP,” Chernock and the other panelists will investigate the key quality issues for providers sending television over IP networks.
“Successful quality assurance in the IPTV realm requires comprehensive monitoring in the appropriate places and comparison against pertinent standards,” said Chernock. “Monitoring and analysis that are complemented by effective prioritization of error severity can be extremely valuable in the maintenance of stream quality. The IBC2008 tutorial session is sure to provide attendees with useful IPTV monitoring models they can deploy to ensure delivery of high-quality services to their customer base.”
In discussing stream quality assurance for IPTV, Chernock and fellow industry experts will explore the elements of a quality viewing experience, as well as the impairments and root causes of problems with IPTV video. The session will include a comparison of IP network monitoring and MPEG transport monitoring analysis. Chernock will offer insight about the relevance of the ATSC A/78 and SCTE 142 recommended practices for transport stream verification, and also provide strategies for system monitoring in the IPTV delivery environment.
