Triveni Digital to Team With Industry Leaders at CES to Offer First Demonstration of ATSC Mobile DTV
PRINCETON, NJ - January 08, 2009

At the 2009 International CES®, Triveni Digital will team with industry leaders LG Electronics, Harris, Zenith, and Roundbox™ to provide the first live demonstration of the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) Mobile Digital TV (A/153) standard, broadcasting multiple television programs simultaneously to handheld and mobile receivers. Newly elevated to “candidate standard” status by the ATSC, this mobile DTV technology enables broadcasters to leverage their content and DTV transmission infrastructure for targeting the rapidly growing mobile market. Of special significance, Triveni Digital’s GuideBuilder™ Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) generation system will supply the signaling metadata necessary for tuning these mobile DTV broadcasts.

Triveni Digital has extended the capabilities of its GuideBuilder system to support broadcasters in delivering media over new platforms. During the CES demonstration, as regular DTV feeds are acquired from different broadcasters and transcoded for mobile delivery, the GuideBuilder system will draw corresponding PSIP information from existing schedule sources and use it to create new signaling and current program guide data that is compatible with mobile DTV delivery. ATSC Mobile DTV products for this Electronic Service Guide will include mobile phones, small handheld TVs, laptop computers, and in-vehicle entertainment systems.

“Now that the ATSC A/153 candidate standard has been approved and is being published, broadcasters can begin to test their own delivery of mobile services,” said Dr. Richard Chernock, chief technology officer, Triveni Digital. “With GuideBuilder’s mobile DTV support, broadcasters can build on their existing systems to make valuable local content — news, sports, traffic, and weather — available to mobile devices. Initial availability of mobile DTV functionality in consumer products is expected in late 2009, making this the right time for broadcasters to explore the opportunities offered by the new standard and our GuideBuilder system.”

The mobile DTV demo will be held from Jan. 8 through 11 during the 2009 International CES in Las Vegas.
